Are we heading toward a ‘watermark everything’ world?

Just got the email: LinkedIn is using our content to train AI models – unless we proactively opt out. LinkedIn will use posts, comments, and other data to train generative AI models. Silence means consent in these updates.

💡 I will opt out. FYI: Opting out only affects future training, not past data collection.
While most of my content isn’t groundbreaking or original, I plan on posting more of my IP. I don’t want my ideas feeding models without clear control over how they’re used – especially when creators see zero compensation. Sound familiar, artists and content creators?
➡️ How to opt out: Settings & Privacy → Data Privacy → “Data for Generative AI Improvement”

💡This raises a bigger question: Should we be watermarking content before posting?
For visuals – absolutely. Watermarking art to keep you ownership, photos, and videos helps prevent deepfake misuse.

-> But what about pure text? How do we protect written IP when we want to share ideas but control how they’re used?

I’m happy to contribute to AI training – but I want it to be my choice on which post exactly, not the default.

How are you thinking about protecting your original content? 🤔
